Andrew Stanton: The clues to a great story

What does Andrew Stanton think it take to create a great story?

Everybody has a story to tell. Often it is more difficult than you think to portray it in a way that makes people understand. When you are talking about an experience there are lots of things to consider. Obviously, getting th point of your story across is vital. However, you also want to be emotive, inspiring and interesting.

In his book ‘The Hero with a Thousand Faces”, Joseph campbell talks about the correlating factors in stories throughout history. The twelve stages of the hero’s journey.

Sometimes, all you need is a starting point. A little bit of inspiration to start you on your creative journey. Stories can be told in so many ways.  You should’t restricted to one medium.

Sculptors, artists, film makers, writers and musicians are all telling stories. They are just doing so in slightly different ways. The question you should ask is:

How can I tell my story?

In this video from TED, Filmmaker Andrew Stanton (“Toy Story,” “WALL-E“) shares what he knows about storytelling – starting at the end and working back to the beginning.
